500 Free Turkish Flashcards

Essential Turkish Words for Beginners

These free Turkish flashcards contain 500 essential Turkish words for beginner learners. The vocabulary is organised into small groups by topic, so you can study a manageable set of words at a time and return to them whenever you need a quick review.

The collection focuses on vocabulary you are likely to meet early in your Turkish studies and in everyday life. You will find common nouns and verbs, adjectives, question words, numbers, time expressions, food, family, places, and other useful everyday vocabulary.

How to Use the Turkish Flashcards

You do not need to memorise all 500 words at once. Choose one group and work with it for a few days. Look at the Turkish word first and try to remember its meaning before checking the English. Then reverse the process and see whether you can produce the Turkish word from the English meaning.

Reading the words aloud can also help you become more familiar with Turkish sounds. Once a word starts to feel familiar, try using it in a short sentence rather than studying it on its own.

Vocabulary and Turkish Grammar

Turkish vocabulary becomes much more useful when you understand how words interact with suffixes. A word such as ev means “house,” but you will also encounter forms such as evde (in the house), eve (to the house), and evden (from the house).

This is one of the reasons I recommend studying vocabulary alongside grammar. As you learn new words, you will gradually begin to recognise the same Turkish structures appearing again and again.

You can use these flashcards together with my free Turkish grammar lessons from A1 to C1  to see how Turkish words behave inside real sentences.

A Simple Way to Study

Start with a small group of words and review them regularly. Keep the words you already recognize in circulation while spending more time on the ones that are difficult to recall.

You can also choose five words from your current set and write your own sentences with them. Even very simple sentences help you move from recognizing vocabulary to actually using it.

These 500 Turkish vocabulary flashcards are free to use as part of your Turkish studies. Save the page and come back whenever you want to review a topic or refresh words you have forgotten.
